Freda Price Pitjara

Freda Price Pitjara was born 1984 in Alice Springs and raised in Atneltyeye (Boundary Bore, Utopia Region), Utopia is located approximately 300km North East of Alice Springs and is an area that is abundant with the Bush Yam. Freda is the daughter of Anna Price Petyarre and the late Colin Price Kemarre (dec. 2004). She comes from a long line of famous artists. Encouraged by her mother and other family members, Freda is now producing some beautiful work.

Her style is similar to that of her mother Anna with intricate dot work telling the story of her country in her Sandhills style and has a great flare for colour as used in her Bush Yam style. Her Grandmother, the late Gloria (Glory) Ngale, was known for her eye for colour, a legacy of her Batik work, which she passed down to her daughters and granddaughters.

Freda lives in her traditional homelands of Utopia with her husband and children.

Subjects: Atnwelarre (Pencil Yam), Kame (Pencil Yam Seed), Awelye (Women’s Ceremony and Body Paint Design) which are the main stories from her mother’s country, Alhalkere
