Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa was born around 1959 in the bush at Mt Allan cattle station near Yuendumu, about 300 kms north of Alice Springs.

Maureen Hudson is a Warlpiri woman . She began painting in 1988. Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa’s paintings draw on traditional Warlpiri Dreaming stories, and incorporate her own distinctive sense of colour and innovation of design. Her painting’s originate from Warlukulongu – her father’s and grandfather’s country.

Maureen’s father passed away in 1972 when Maureen was 12 years old. Her mother went on to re-marry Peter Brown Jungala and had another five children. Maureen was educated at Yuendumu Settlement and later returned to Mt. Allen and worked as a teacher’s aid for three years.

Maureen now has four children of her own, Michael, Jillian, Gwenda and Anderson Turner, she encouraged her two daughters Jillian and Gwenda in her footsteps. Her dreaming’s include emu, fire, and women’s ceremonies, which have been passed down from her mother’s involvement in traditional ceremony. Maureen has been an Artist in Residence at the Mulgara Gallery in Yulara (Uluru- Ayers Rock) Maureen paints in a strong and innovative style, and is equally at ease working with other artists on collaborative pieces. Her joint piece ‘Seven Sisters Dreaming’ with Alice Springs artist Maggie Urban was exhibited and toured with the ‘Commitments’ exhibition in 1993 through the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane.

Maureen Nampijinpa Hudson is very family orientated, and enjoys sitting and painting with her children.

Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa resides in Adelaide but frequently visits family and friends in Mount Allan and Alice Springs. In recent years Maureen Hudson Nampijinpa has been working as an Artist in Residence at Yulara (Uluru) for four week periods.
