The desert yam or bush potato refers to the tubers or swollen roots of the Ipomoea costata, a fast-growing creeper adorned with large purplish-pink trumpet flowers. These tubers grow underground while the viny shrub extends above ground, reaching up to one meter in height. Commonly found on spinifex sand plains, this plant produces its vibrant flowers after summer rains.
